About This Course

Learn how to confidently manage group dynamics, and improve your ability to work with stakeholders to elicit, document, analyze, validate and achieve consensus on requirements.

A key competency of the business analyst is effective facilitation. Participants in this course develop the ability to elicit requirements in a workshop setting while managing the group dynamics. Participants build confidence facilitating requirements workshops and dealing with difficult stakeholders. Through interactive role-play, participants learn and practise the unique facilitation challenges facing business analysts today.

  • Those intending to lead or participate in requirements elicitation workshops or structured walkthroughs to validate requirements.

  • Designing and planning a requirements workshop.
  • Moderating discussions among participants.
  • Controlling an agenda to ensure a group’s objectives are achieved.
  • Applying and promoting active listening skills and leading a group to consensus.
  • Recognizing and addressing dysfunctional behaviour in a group.

This course (BAE3) is one of seven courses in the Business Analysis Essentials Certificate program. In order to achieve your Algonquin College certificate, you must complete all seven courses within five years. However, taking all seven courses is not mandatory, and you may choose to select only those courses which meet your specific needs. -- Algonquin College is an Endorsed Education ProviderTM (EEPTM) of IIBA. Courses in the BA Essential program are eligible for Professional Development (PD) hours for certification and Continuing Development Units (CDUs) for recertification.
